By way of introduction, my name is Dr. Gregory M. Vecchi, PhD.
I am a retired FBI supervisory special agent, career hostage negotiator, and Chief of the FBI Behavioral Science Unit. I have over 30 years of law enforcement experience. I have also taught defensive tactics, firearms, and use-of-force training to civilians and law enforcement officers for over 20 years.
I have known Lawrence Sloan for nearly four decades. I joined Mr. Sloan’s martial arts school in 1984 and took classes in Filipino martial arts, impact weapons, and defensive tactics. I earned my 2nd Degree Black Belt from Mr. Sloan prior to joining the military. During my career in federal law enforcement, I have personally used what I learned from Mr. Sloan to defend myself during international and undercover operations. I have trained others using Mr. Sloan’s system and I use it as a basis for my Tactical Conflict Resolution de-escalation and use-of-force system that I teach domestically and internationally.
Mr. Sloan was a student and instructor under Grand Master Remy A. Presas (1976-78) and he has taught hundreds of law enforcement, security, and personal defense training seminars, as well as providing personal protection for executives, celebrities, and politicians. Mr. Sloan has trained professionals in a variety of venues to include police in-service trainings, casinos, Indian Reservations, and private corporations.
Mr. Sloan’s training system, Defensive Tactics and Control Techniques (DTACTUSA) is derived from the Filipino Martial Arts and it can be used as a stand-alone defensive tactics system or it can be used to augment existing skill sets. The system emphasizes defensive tactics and control procedures that are simple, functional, and legal. DTACTUSA is especially well-suited for law enforcement and security professionals because it incorporates elements of de-escalation with a high emphasis on liability protection.
As a student and friend of Mr. Sloan’s for nearly 40 years, I can honestly and enthusiastically endorse his training. I recommend his training courses for anyone in need of defensive tactics and control techniques.
